Results of the 6th Lyon International Competition: A Monbazillac 2011 gets the Competition’s best score: 99/100!

The 6th edition of the Lyon International Competition was a great success: the 21st March battle between wines, beers and spirits from across the globe brought the European wine world together at the Cité International de Lyon for the space of a few hours. This year’s major winner was Château Montdoyen. Its ‘Ainsi Soit-il’ cuvée, AOP Monbazillac 2011, was given the unprecedented score of 99/100! Another first this year: beer was included in the competition, and 35 beers, including 20 from France, were awarded gold medals.
- On the menu: 138 wines from all over the world (Portugal, Switzerland, the United States, South Africa, etc.) were awarded 683 gold and 700 silver medals.
- For the first time in its history, the competition also gave awards to more than 50 beers and 11 spirits.
The 6th edition of the Lyon International Competition was truly a great success, with more than 4000 wines entered and nearly 600 professional tasters and experienced wine lovers attending.
This year’s group of gold medal winners included 611 wines from 200 Bordeaux vineyards. Foreign wines were also on the podium, with Spanish and Italian wines taking second and third place. Note also the presence of Swiss cuvées (5 gold and 2 silver medals) and wines from Slovakia (3 gold medals and 1 silver). The diversity of the wines tasted and awarded was exceptional in a competition of this kind. The event also brought recognition to wine makers from all over the world.
Open for the first time to beer, spirits and apéritifs, the 2015 edition granted awards to 56 beers. White, blond, brown, black, amber and special beers raked in a total of 35 gold and 21 silver medals. The medal winners were of various origins: France, Belgium, Portugal, Austria and Switzerland.
Apéritifs and spirits obtained 6 gold and 5 silver medals; those awarded included plum and peach brandies and Calvados.
