The 30th Best Sommelier in France competition: A topflight edition
On Sunday, November 11th, in the presence of more than 800 spectators, five very high-level candidates vied for the title of Best Sommelier in France in the final round of the 2018 competition.
Florian Balzeau, Pascaline Lepeltier, Isabelle Mabboux, Pierre Vila Palleja and Aymeric Pollène gave the audience an excellent performance.
Each candidate brilliantly illustrated what it means to be a sommelier, a profession requiring many human and technical skills.
When the results from the five areas (Tasting - Food & Wine Pairings - Service - Beers - Coffee & Spirits) were tallied, Pascaline Lepeltier came out ahead.
Pascaline was already one of the four award-winners in the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommellerie 2018 competition in October. Now she has won the Best Sommelier in France award, the first woman ever to do so*.  That makes two victories for Pascaline Lepeltier, 37, who was presented with the Best Sommelier in France 2018 trophy by the UDSF’s President, Philippe Faure-Brac.
This date, November 11th, will undoubtedly be long remembered in the history of French Sommelerie.

*In 1978, Danièlle Carré-Cartal won the prize for Best Sommelier in France in the restaurant owner category. She was followed in 1980 by Maryse Allarousse.
