2023 Edition: record participation of spirits!
1,200 tasters from all over the world gathered at the Cité Internationale for the 14th Concours International de Lyon for Wines, Beers and Spirits on the 24th and 25th of March 2023. Spirits, in particular, have been drawn to the new edition: their registrations have exploded.
Under the authority of the Commissioner General and the supervision of an independent inspector, nearly 9,000 samples were judged by our professional tasters and connoisseurs. All samples were tasted in conformity with strict hygiene measures, competition regulations and our ISO9001 certification.
At the end of the tasting, 70 trophies et 2,767Gold and Silver medals were awarded to producers in all categories.
The competition
The competition’s international scope was confirmed by the participation of 47 countries including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Moldova, South Africa, Turkey, Cambodia, Venezuela, Japan and Burkina Faso.
Wines
The wine competition confirmed its success with nearly 6,260 samples tasted. In all, our tasters awarded 1,899 Gold and Silver medals. The best wines from each country and for each French designation were also awarded: 32 trophies.
The best wine in the competition, all countries combined, was the Piano Della Signora - AOP Corse 2021 du Clos Lucciardi, a red wine produced in France.

Spirits
The number of spirits entries jumped by 26% compared to the previous year. The Creams & Liqueurs category stood out with 177 samples. 241 spirits were awarded Gold and Silver medals, and 21 trophies were awarded.
The best spirit of the competition from any country was a cherry liqueur, Liquore di Visciola, made in Italy.

Beers
With 2,000 samples submitted, the beer competition has established itself as an unmissable showcase of the world's best beers. The Blond category stood out with 222 samples. A total of 627 Gold and Silver medals were awarded and 17 beers received a trophy.
The best beer of the competition from all countries was this year's Imperial Stout, Voreia Single Malt Barrel Aged Stout from the Siris Microbrewery in Greece.

Sommelier Trophy
This year, the competition awarded a Sommelier Trophy to a trio of sommellerie students. A grant of 1,500 euros was awarded to Liam Braconnier, Cassandra Caquineau and Anthony Victoire.
The students wrote a complete report on the Azores Archipelago in Portugal, and their travel project, then explained the reasons for their choice in an oral presentation.
A reminder of the figures
A total of 6,260 wines, 2,000 beers and 730 spirits were tasted. 2,767 Gold and Silver medals and 70 trophies were awarded. 47 countries were represented.
