The Lyon International Competition is back, this time for two days of tasting!
Lyon is well-known as the capital of the senses, particularly the sense of taste, so the city is a perfect place for the selection of the world’s best wines, beers and spirits.
In 2020, despite the exceptional situation, no less than 7,780 samples from 41 countries were tasted in the tasting rooms of the competition.
This 12h edition will be held on Friday, 26 March and Saturday, 27 March 2020, at the Cité Internationale in Lyon.
The competition, which is international in scope, will welcome tasters from across the world and entrust them with the task of tasting and marking more than 7,500 wines, beers and spirits. The best in each category will be eligible to receive a medal, either Gold or Silver.
At the end of the competition, a special prize will be awarded to each best product from each country and each region of France.
The competition is growing
The Lyon International Competition is more successful with each passing year. More and more samples are registered, so the competition will now take place over two days. For this eleventh edition of the Competition, returning tasters who are already familiar with the competition may also take part on Friday, March 26.
A competition that, since 2020, has become even more delicious with the inclusion of a Cheese and Dairy Products selection. Tastings took place on November 27, 28 and 30 of last year. The results were there: 756 samples tasted, 9 trophies awarded and 213 products awarded gold or silver medals.
An Honorary President for each edition
Each year, the competition names an honorary president, with a famous Chef or Sommelier being selected for the honour on alternate years. The goal is to make the competition even more widely known by attracting the attention of the press and professionals.
In 2021, the presidency of the Competition was attributed to Eric Goettelmann. Named Best Sommelier in France in 2018, Eric recently joined the mythical Paul Bocuse restaurant in Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or as head sommelier, and has set himself new challenges as part of a team whose values he shares.
Special situations require special measures
If the situation with respect to COVID-19 prevents us from organising the tasting at the Cité Internationale in Lyon, tasters will meet in small groups in the tasting rooms on our premises in Limas, near Lyon.
The quality manager will make sure samples are tasted under the best conditions and that the rules and regulations of the Lyon International Competition, formulated in accordance with ISO9001 certification procedures, are carefully followed.
