This second edition will take place on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Cité Internationale in Lyon.
The competition is international in scope: jurors from across the world will taste and mark nearly 1,000 cheese and dairy products from many countries. The best in each category will be awarded a Gold or Silver Medal. At the end of the competition, the best product from each country will receive a special prize.
An increasingly successful competition.
For many years now, the Concours International de Lyon has seen a steady increase in the number of samples entered. Galvanised by this success, last year the competition decided to open up to Cheese and Dairy Products. The results were clear: 756 samples tasted, 9 trophies awarded, and 213 products crowned gold or silver medals.
An Honorary President for each edition.
Each year, a well-known cheesemaker is chosen as the honorary president of the competition. He or she makes the competition even more widely known by attracting the attention of the press and professionals in the field. Didier Lassagne, Meilleur Ouvrier de France Cheesemonger in 2007, will be the event’s prestigious ambassador for 2022. This Norman with a passion for cheese made a career change in 1998 so that he could devote himself entirely to the promotion of French cheesemaking traditions in his cheese factory in Lyon.
A passionate and dedicated teacher, he is now President of the MAF (Meilleurs Apprentis de France) commission.
A demanding Commissioner General.
Meilleur Ouvrier de France Cheesemonger in 2011, as Commissioner General, François Robin will make sure that samples are in conformity and that the tasting is carried out properly. An expert in the field, François managed the Cheese sector at the famous Fauchon gourmet grocery store before becoming a consultant. He also wrote ‘Cheese for Dummies’.
Special situations require special measures.
The quality manager will ensure strict conformity with hygiene measures, guarantee the fairness of the Concours International de Lyon and oversee implementation of its regulations, using ISO9001 certification procedures as a guide.
